Dr. Amanda Tracy Helps Women Over 40 to Reclaim Their Body, Mind & Mojo

Tell us a bit about yourself!

I’ve been a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (ND) since 2005. For 15 years, I helped build an award-winning wellness center in Massachusetts. In 2021, I relocated to Northern California wine country and transitioned my practice online to serve women from New England to California and everywhere in between. My telemedicine practice specializes in perimenopause and menopause wellness. I love helping women over 40 to reclaim their body, mind and mojo to master their metabolism, sleep deeper, have more energy and always be in a kickass good mood.

What motivated you to take your career in the direction you did? Is this something you always wanted to do?

My personal health journey led me to specialize in women’s health. In my teens and 20s, I was plagued with irregular periods. Naturally, when I specialized in naturopathic medicine, female hormones and menstrual cycles were of personal interest. I created a regimen using natural therapies, herbal medicine and nutrition to support my hormones but it wasn’t until I fully embraced a 100% plant based diet, got serious about stress management, and made sleep a priority in my life, that I was able to have regular, monthly periods in my 30s and 40s. Consequently, as my practice grew, women that needed the same types of support and hormone balance were drawn to me more than other types of patients were and it became the majority of my practice.

In 2017, before it was en vogue, I experienced “burnout” and this was a wake up call that forced me to re-evaluate my lifestyle, work-life balance, and my nutrition and supplement regimen - as well as how I approached my medical practice as a business. I had never shied away from being a business owner or entrepreneur, my family had multiple small businesses and my sister and I were very involved in them growing up -  but I had to find another way to “do” the business of being a doctor to have the bandwidth to be both the CEO and a caring healthcare provider.

Although this was a really difficult time in my life, this exploration led to me not only healing myself, but also creating the medical practice I have today - a solopreneur boutique telemedicine practice specialized in what I do best - working with women who feel their bodies are in chaos because of changing hormone levels, sleep issues, stress or anxiety.

How do you succeed in business without really trying? Aka: What are some of your best hacks and things you automate in your business?

To ensure consistent productivity without over-working or stressing out, I am a big fan of time-blocking and having a theme for each day of the week. Even though I check in with patient messages each day, I reserve Tuesdays and Thursdays for patient consultations, reviewing lab results and matters directly related to patient care. I do most of my networking and outreach on Mondays and Fridays; business administrative and financial tasks on Fridays; professional development and preparing for speaking engagements on Wednesdays.

Then I layer in different types of automations to help each day flow, no matter what my theme or goals are for the day. I set up my email and schedule reminders to pop on the correct day of the week that fits into my theme of that day so I can hit the ground running. For example, I’ll set up my reminders to check-in with my business besties or follow-up on speaking opportunities on Mondays or Fridays. I also time block and keep a task list related to my professional networking groups and their social media pages - The Dames and Doers & Dreamers - this way, I can tackle them on Mondays and Fridays, stay connected and involved in the group without spending too much time on social media that would otherwise go towards patient care or business growth.

If we had to burn all the books in the world, but keep just 3… Which ones should we keep and why?

First of all, how dare you burn books?! But if you must, here are the three I would keep:

The Superfun Times Vegan Holiday Cookbook by Isa Chandra Moskowitz

I’ve been vegan for many years and have committed many recipes to memory but this cookbook has all of our holiday and special occasion favorites that I tackle less often and thus, need this book to keep the festivities alive - which will be imperative if we get deeper into “book burning” times!

The 5 Minute Gratitude Journal by Journey Publishing

Started my first gratitude journal in the 1990s while in college and it’s not only a tool to foster mindfulness and reduces stress on a daily basis - it’s fun to look back in my old journals and see what was going on in my life and how I was processing it just by reading the 3 things I was grateful for that day.

The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau

I'm an avid reader but rarely re-read books - I’ve read this one twice! It’s a must read for anyone thinking, living, or working “outside the box” of conformity. This has inspired me as I chose some unconventional paths - natural, integrative medicine before it was mainstream, owning my own business in my 20s and being a medical provider working outside of the standard medical insurance system.
