Liz Anthony is the Founder of Mariposa Communications, a Boutique Public Relations Firm Specializing in Fashion Accessories

Liz Anthony began her career in public relations at Coach, where she managed regional press and special events. This initial experience paved the way for her transition into the fast-paced agency world, ultimately leading her to a boutique firm specializing in fashion accessories. In early 2009, she took a bold step and founded Mariposa Communications. Her vision was to blend the personalized service of an in-house PR department with the dynamic offerings of a boutique agency, focusing on fashion accessory brands. At Mariposa, the team works closely with designers to fulfill the diverse needs of both budding and established brands.

Located in the heart of Soho, New York City, Mariposa Communications has become a top fashion public relations and marketing agency since its inception. Liz emphasizes the importance of building strong relationships within the media landscape to secure high-quality press for her clients. By combining the intimate approach of an in-house team with the broad capabilities of a traditional agency, Mariposa delivers exceptional results. As the industry evolves, Liz and her team continuously adapt to maintain their competitive edge, ensuring that the personalized services they offer remain a priority as they grow.

Mentorship and community support play a vital role in Liz's journey. She believes in the power of networking and maintaining relationships, even with competitors. The entrepreneurial spirit of working with like-minded creatives is a rewarding aspect of her career that she cherishes. For those looking to start their own businesses, Liz offers a piece of crucial advice: never give up, despite the challenges you may face. Creativity and adaptability are essential in the ever-changing landscape of PR, especially in the accessories market, where innovative storytelling can enhance a brand’s visibility without breaking the bank.

What do you do? What do your services specialize in?

Mariposa Communications is a top fashion public relations and marketing agency located in Soho in New York City – right in the heart of the fashion media world. Since 2009, we have built our business by providing exceptional services to a distinctive set of brands who have a unique approach we truly believe in. We are able to obtain high quantity, high quality press by combining the intimate services of an in-house public relations department with the wide range and exciting offerings of a PR agency.

How do you make sure that your services stand out from your competition and stay relevant in the digital age?

Keep up with the market and always challenge yourself and evolve. Communication is key - our strong relationships with the media of all kinds is crucial and our clients trust us to represent their brands' best interests and relay opportunities and feedback directly to them.

What’s the Most Important Lesson You’ve Learned in PR?

The key takeaway from my journey in PR is to never give up and to stay creative! The landscape of our industry is constantly evolving, so adaptability is essential. Relationships and contacts may shift, and publications can rise and fall, making it crucial to maintain connections. If one strategy doesn’t yield results, don’t get discouraged—be open to exploring new approaches. Embracing creativity and flexibility will help you navigate the challenges and seize opportunities in this dynamic field.

Does your business look the same as you planned it before launching or did you have to adjust a lot of things?

Keeping Mariposa intimate and focused has always been a priority for us and as we grow we always keep that in mind - we would never sacrifice the high quality of the personalized services we offer.

Is it important to mentor/ be a role model to others?

We would not be able to be as successful as we are today without a supportive network of industry friends and mentors. In this industry it is crucial to make fast friends and be sure to keep them them close, even competitors. We always strive to be good role models in everything we do!

Would you ever consider going back to a 9-5 job?

We don't think such a thing exists in our industry, particular in this digital day and age but being an entrepreneur and being able to work with creative, similarly minded businesses is so rewarding, it would be nearly to impossible to give that up.

What is one piece of advice you can give to another entrepreneur?

Don't give up despite the ups and downs when you're getting started - work hard and all of the rewards will come soon!
