Julia Jane Jackson creates gourmet popcorn made by hand with all natural ingredients, carefully sourced, lovingly crafted
We’re making gourmet popcorn the way it should be: by hand, using all natural ingredients, carefully sourced, lovingly crafted and free of any nasty preservatives or additives.
Popcorn Shed’s range is suitable for vegetarians and completely gluten-free.
We believe that outstanding popcorn is hard to mass-produce, so we manufacture it in small batches that are made to order.
Each kernel is air popped to create fluffy popcorn that is then lightly coated with a delicious caramel sauce. Popcorn Shed uses inclusions such as nuts and chocolate to create textures which enhance taste, flavour and mouth-feel.
Our popcorn is extra crunchy and delightfully “moreish”.
Every brand has a story and ours started in the Garden Shed. Find out more on our website www.popcornshed.com
What motivated you to become an entrepreneur? Is having your own business something you always wanted to have?
I worked as a management consultant for quite a few years and found I dipped in and out of projects and businesses but never had the opportunity to see anything grow. I really craved owning, nurturing a project from start to finish.
I think I’ve always had the entrepreneurial bug. From selling homemade slush puppies in the summer to neighbours as a kid, to running a number of side projects alongside my day job as a management consultant (club nights, singles dinner parties, weekends away for young professionals and a pop up bakery!)
How did you come up with your business idea? What inspired you?
Let's Pop to it!
We're Laura and Sam. Our journey began when, as two cousins in the family kitchen, we dedicated ourselves to perfecting irresistibly indulgent popcorn recipes. But it takes patience as well as passion to make popcorn so seriously scrumptious. And as we poured more and more deliciousness into each flavour, the kitchen began to burst at the seams.
Enough was enough!
Our family packed us off to the garden shed and Popcorn Shed was born! We are a home-grown, family owned and operated business, established in Great Britain, and we hope your tastebuds love our popcorn as much as we do.
What were you doing before this? How did it prepare you for the entrepreneurial life?
I worked as a management consultant for a large worldwide consultancy firm for over 6 years, consulting for a number of FTSE 100 companies. So, nothing to do with the food industry! However, I’m a foodie! Food has always been a central part of my life and family traditions for as long as I can remember.
What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
I moved back in with my parents and used the savings from not paying rent to fund the start up the business.
