When did you consider yourself a success? Did you ever have to deal with the imposter syndrome? How do you overcome the imposter syndrome?
My definition of success has evolved over the last few years as I’ve evolved as a leader. I used to be extrinsically motivated by money, power, accolades, status and material things. It was a lonely and toxic lifestyle I was living. When I began my healing journey, my intention was to reconnect with my true essence, the voice inside that I had ignored for so many years working my way up the corporate ladder. When I set that intention, I set the wheels in motion to change my life. Through unlearning everything I once believed to be true about myself, life, business etc, success began to look very different to me. Today, my success isn’t measured by money but rather through values alignment, purpose, and presence.
I definitely dealt with and still deal with imposter syndrome. That’s the thing with entrepreneurship and/or your continuous evolution. It’s natural to feel scared of the unknown or the new. If you’re taking the leap into business for the first time, you may question yourself because you’ve never done that exact thing before. That’s ok. Finding a balance between ego and essence for me has really expanded my ability to lead boldly and trust that everything I am doing in that moment is perfectly aligned with my destiny, even when I can’t fully understand or see through the fog. This is called leading in faith over fear.
How do you push through your worst times? What are some tips on how we can motivate ourselves when we’re not really feeling it?
Ground yourself in gratitude, I mean, really, ground yourself in it. This isn’t just as simple as “I’m grateful for X”, it’s a way of being. When you can find gratitude in times that are challenging, it will carry you through. A few years ago, I lost my house to a hurricane, while we were on a trip. It was a very tough situation, but I couldn’t help but be grateful we weren’t home when this happened. I can’t imagine the trauma we might have experienced otherwise. Along the same lines, I kept feeling so grateful that my family was safe. Despite losing everything we owned, and our financial security in an instant, WE were safe, we were healthy and we were together. Everything else was just “stuff” and as we’ve rebuilt our lives, we’ve really changed our relationship with “stuff”. Caring less about the material things and spending more time together.
A practical tool I use to get motivated when I’m not feeling it is, beginning my day with devotional practice: check my HRV, walk, prayer, journaling, top 3 to/do’s. It’s easy to get caught up in the never ending to do list, but being with ourselves first allows us the opportunity to pour into us before we pour into everything/everyone else.
How do you create the right mindset for yourself and your team in the time of the great resignation? How do you maintain a great company culture where people want to say and succeed?
Leadership is behavior. It’s being. It’s energy. Not a title. A great company culture is built when leaders go beyond the lip service and embody their values. Practicing work/life integration. Treating people with compassion, respect, and understanding. Investing in themselves and their teams with a goal of creating human potential development organizations where leaders are enrolled in their own journeys alongside each other. Growing in passion, purpose, profit and supporting the planet.
How did you get your mentor? Why did you choose them to be your mentor? What are some tips for people who are looking for mentors, but don’t really have them yet?
I have many amazing mentors. I got them a few different ways. In some cases my mentors are coaches I’ve invested in working with because they embody values that resonate with me. As I grew into my role in leadership, I experimented with different types of programs from group coaching, to masterminds, to online communities, to events, to 1:1 coaching work. Through those experiences, I was able to hone in on what works well for me and truly align with what I need.
