IG LIVE: How to inspire consumers to become better citizens w/ Adana Mam-Legros
Born in the middle of a war zone during the Cambodian military coup in 1997, Adana was raised by activist parents fighting human trafficking in southeast Asia. She spent her childhood in Phnom Penh surrounded by bodyguards, overwhelmed by death threat and kidnapping letters, she would find her self refugee in Laos. She grew up with women and children survivors of sexual exploitation which made her prematurely aware of the problems of the contemporary world. Her parent's work quickly rubs off on her education and pushes her to participate in her parents' association from social work to international travel for conferences.
Revolted against a perversive system and resentful of social injustice, she pursues law and political science study in France. At 21 years old, her studies were abruptly interrupted as she was battling cancer and endured aggressive chemotherapy.
After her recovery, she works one year to inaugurate her first exhibition in Manhattan, New York. Since then, she has exhibited worldwide. Artist, she uses her surrealist pictorial work to discuss topics such as consciousness, ethics, and the evolution of Homo Sapiens. Combining philanthropical work and art, her latest exhibition in collaboration with H.E Chea Serey, raised a total of USD 60 000 which was donated to 3 local NGOs.
She is also the Co-founder and President of Generation C a socially driven artistic movement striving for an empathic civilization placing a greater emphasis on compassion, ethics, and social responsibility. This movement aims to shift consumers to global citizens.
