That’s when I knew this was something that could not only change the way women looked at underwear, but could also change lives. The mission of the company is to help women feel empowered and confident as they tackle all of life’s daily challenges.
How did your past experiences (school, work, childhood, family etc.) help you get to where you are today?
I graduated from FIT in fashion design so I was able to use my technical skills to create the first prototype. My educational background helped me to figure out how to navigate our current supply chain. From manufacturers to textile mills, I knew the right questions to ask.
Is entrepreneurship something that anyone can tackle? What is the most important thing to consider?
As an entrepreneur we all wear many hats, but as we start to build the business, it is so important to identify what you are and aren’t good at. Staying focused on what you offer and managing it well is the key to growth. Of course there will be speed bumps along the way. Everything from trying to gain a following of customers to just managing the process can be daunting. But surrounding yourself by like-minded individuals who are just as passionate about what you are doing, let’s you focus on what’s important, growing your business.
What are some ways of motivating yourself in times of doubt? Do you ever feel like giving up? Why do you keep going?
Up until the last few months I was working alone. I didn’t realize how important it was to have support from people who understood the exact challenges I was facing. Keeping up the momentum without energy and input from other people can be tiring. The best way of overcoming this that I’ve found so far is to try and build a small network of friends you trust to share your goals and bounce ideas around with. That is why I am a Founding member of Dreamers and Doers, which is a community of trailblazing, entrepreneurial women.
Is it important to dream big? What is the big dream for your business?
I think that dreaming big means that you’re seeking a purpose for your life, which is fulfilling. If you are passionate enough and have the right mindset you can accomplish any goal and achieve so much more. Why settle for small dreams? My dream is to take my revolutionary product and impact women’s lives in a positive and powerful way by giving them their freedom and dignity back. It is a huge burden on one’s pride when you cannot even change your own intimates. Slick Chicks gives back that confidence to boost women up and feel empowered. Changing undergarments is such an essential part of our lives, and Slick Chicks makes sure you can tackle that all on your own. We hope the ripple effects of these changes will lead to people feeling more confident to face the world ahead of them.
