Taran Ghatroraco @ Blume: first ever cohesive line of personal care products for Gen Z girls
Blume is the fastest growing & first ever cohesive line of personal care products for Gen Z girls as they grow through puberty. 60% of women say they feel their self-esteem plummeted when they went through puberty – Blume aims to change this stat through education, community & safe / effective products.
We realized the importance of creating products specifically for this time, to address hormonal acne, period cramps and more. What's really special, at least to us, is that we're creating a go-to brand that serves as a community for these girls — having this all in one place and branding it as for puberty / this life stage helps to normalize puberty & make it feel less isolating. Blume is the brand girls grow up with.
What motivated you to become an entrepreneur? Is having your own business something you always wanted?
Solving a problem is what motivated me to become an entrepreneur. I always knew I wanted to impact the lives of women in a positive way, and I quickly realized I could create a faster and larger scale impact in areas I cared about, through business rather than through my legal career. I’ve always the ability to create my own future, pave my own path, be creative and create impact. Entrepreneurship allows me to do these things.
Do you have a fixed work routine? Is it important to have one? Any tips for our readers?
As a founder, no two days are ever the same. I try to center myself with self-care routines outside of work, like morning workouts and night routines, or just spending time with my favorite people / dog. Most mornings I have a few rituals that help me set my intention for the day. I’ll usually like a candle or sage and write - if I feel like I have a lot on my mind I’ll do morning pages and when I’m short on time I’ll just write in my five minute journal. I love yoga, boxing and hiking.
In terms of productivity, our team has huddles every Monday to allow us to check in with each other, empower one another and to ensure we’re on the same page. I like using the Pomodoro method to power through work and I ruthlessly edit my calendar before the week starts.
How do you generate new ideas to stay relevant on the market? Is it important to innovate in your space?
I actively create space to stay creative. I love the book The Artists’ Way - it has so many amazing tips to nurture creativity. I truly believe every human is innately and infinitely creative. I write morning pages and I try to reduce as much friction as possible in my everyday life. The best ideas come when you get out of the weeds and have the clarity to look at the larger picture. I always have great ideas in the shower.
I believe it’s important to innovate in every space. Without growth, we remain stagnant and that is my biggest fear. I also believe that if you are trying your best everyday to work towards your mission and your why, that authenticity will shine through and you will be “relevant” to those that align.
What sacrifices have you had to make to be a successful entrepreneur?
The usual founder sacrifices like sleep, free time, stability & comfort. For me, if I had “what ifs,” the pain of that would outweigh the fears and sacrifices that come with being an entrepreneur, so it is 1000% worth it.
