Lauren Vanscoy started Essence One to share her natural, safe & therapeutic products with the world
I started Essence One after anxiety and depression completely rocked my world following the birth of my children. Through exploring ways to deal with my mental health, I found aromatherapy and natural household products to be life changing. Through that discover, I started Essence One to share those natural, safe and therapeutic products with the world. I also decided that I wanted to raise awareness for mental health and give back to organizations that raise awareness as well.
What did you want to do/be when you were a child? Did anything changed since then?
I used to make potions at bath time with my parents travel sized shampoos and soaps. I don’t think I knew that I would some day make “grownup” potions, but it kind explains by I love doing what I do now with Essence One!
Imagine you can choose how your future in 5 years looks like. What is it? Why?
I just want to be happy doing what I am doing now. Essence One has grown quickly, which is good, but I want to maintain a healthy balance between the business and my life. I want to help people with the products but also through conversations about mental health, so in five years I hope I can be more involved with mental health organizations, partnering on events, etc. so I can focus more on the give back efforts than the product sales.
What do you think is the biggest obstacle for female founders? How can we overcome it?
The biggest obstacle for female founders is that we don’t know enough about the resources offered for entrepreneurs, let alone those offered specifically for female founders. I’d love to be more aware of resources that list options for female founders, maybe also provide a place for us to find possible interns or hiring resources.
