Witnessing the Green Revolution: Brooklyn Fashion Academy's Sustainable Showcase

Aisy Omobude, Camille Jalandoni, Justyna Kedra and Telisa Daughtry on the red carpet before the show

This past Friday night, we had the pleasure of attending a truly inspiring event: the BKLYN Fashion Academy's runway show, "Women of Future Industries: From Runway Model to Role Model," held at the iconic Brooklyn Public Library. The atmosphere crackled with energy as we witnessed the culmination of a 16-week program that transformed aspiring designers into sustainable fashion pioneers. We went to the show with our dear friend Aisy Omobude, who is the founder of Enoma Lifestyle Candles (our favorites) and we were so happy to run into the AI powerhouse Telisa Daughtry — such a great mini catch up!

The night wasn't just about showcasing gorgeous clothes (though, let me tell you, gorgeous they were!). It was about celebrating a new generation of designers who are redefining fashion for a more conscious future. We were incredibly proud of each and every student who took the stage, their talent and commitment to sustainability shining through in every meticulously crafted piece.

Promoting young designers is crucial. They bring fresh perspectives, unburdened by industry norms, and a willingness to experiment. This is especially true when it comes to sustainability, a critical issue facing the fashion industry. These graduates are paving the way for a greener future, proving that style and sustainability can go hand-in-hand.

Speaking of sustainability, a huge shoutout to the event's sponsors, Women.NYC and WOC Star! We're huge fans of the work Diana Franco is doing at Women NYC, an organization dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs in New York City. Their collaboration with WOC Star, a platform for women of color entrepreneurs, is a perfect example of the kind of community-driven support that's fostering positive change.

As the event description perfectly captured, this wasn't just a fashion show, it was a glimpse into the future. We saw innovative designs crafted from recycled materials, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in sustainable fashion. The evening concluded with a delightful cocktail hour, offering a chance to connect with fellow champions of a greener tomorrow and to network with these incredible emerging designers.

If you're passionate about fashion with a conscience, then you need to be supporting events like this. The BKLYN Fashion Academy and its sponsors, WE NYC and WOC Star, are fostering a movement. Join them, celebrate Brooklyn's design talent, and become part of the green revolution that's unfolding on the runway!
