Empowering Women Through Artistry: Lillian Daniels’s Journey Behind Bali Bead and the Vision of Sustainable Entrepreneurship
In 2016, I returned to Bali with a vision: to create a necklace that would empower every woman while honoring the rich craftsmanship of the local community. This journey led to the creation of the Bali Bead, a sustainable necklace crafted from recycled glass and dyed with eco-friendly materials that ensure vibrant, lasting colors without irritating the skin.
Each piece features a stunning mother-of-pearl clasp that secures delicate, strong beaded strands, allowing the necklace to drape elegantly across the wearer’s collarbone. By partnering with local artisan women in Indonesia, we not only bring these beautiful designs to life but also support their long-term growth and development.
Our mission is to uplift these talented women, enabling them to provide for their families and preserve their cherished culture. Join us in celebrating the artistry and resilience of Bali through every necklace we create.
How do you keep yourself motivated when you can’t keep going anymore?
I remind myself of my why. Digging deeper than money you can usually get to a why that will push you out of bed everyday. My why is I want to make the greatest impact that I can. And in order to do that the best bet is to put energy into those things that I am naturally very good at. Those things are making Yoga and healthy living accessible and convenient. Also when I feel like taking a nap or not finishing a project I think “If I do not do it it will not get done”. Last but most certainly not least I maintain a great sense of thankfulness. I truly appreciate my health, my family, friends and the opportunity to share my greatest gifts with the world. I also insist on starting each morning with at least 3 deep breaths. This exercise is doable and serves as a reminder of how powerful our breath is in giving us life.
Do you think you want to start other businesses in the future or do you want to keep growing this one as long as possible? What is the dream?
Yes, I do want to start other businesses. I may be an idealist in that I have a list of ways I think I can serve the world best and I want to exhaust that list. At the moment the dream is to have a hub of businesses that ultimately allow a direct impact in improving the quality of health that individuals enjoy. In thinking about building other businesses I realize the need to check back on my goals to see if adjustments are needed to that goal or if my current actions are going to get me to my my goal. It is also important to look at the current landscape and see where you can disrupt and differentiate yourself using unique skills as well as understanding what already exists and can be leveraged to the benefit of your business.
Is it important to set goals or is it better to just “go with the flow”? What is your strategy?
Absolutely! Set goals set goals with dates. As an entrepreneur there is not really a safety net and you can not predict the future. This increases the need to get things done, test assumptions and readjust if needed. For that reason, it is important to prioritize the the most important actions and understand when they need to be taken so that you can achieve the larger goal. While this is the case do not give yourself an infinite amount of time to plan. The rule that I use is if you have 70% of what is needed to take an action then go! This combined with the fact that “when you have the goal you are more likely to achieve it” makes for more productivity. I also use lists, you can start with giving yourself 1 task to complete for the day and you can add more as you start to complete the tasks. This practice will strengthen your “get it done” muscle.
What part of your personality helped you the most with your entrepreneurial journey?
My optimism and my sense of purpose both help me a great deal in my entrepreneurial journey. My optimism blinds me to “it will not work” or any other doubts that may creep into my mind and they are instead replaced with solutions. When you don’t know why something is impossible all that is left is to find reasons to make it possible. My sense of purpose is helpful as well. I really feel that each person is put on this earth with the ability to make an impact that ONLY they can execute. That belief gives me a sense of and obligation to be successful in making my impact. I am very passionate about helping others overcome the hurdles of healthy eating (convenience and knowledge about vegetable prep) and yoga (making it easy to understand and convenient). The situations that I have been in as well as the experiences that I have gone through have perfectly prepared me to help others in these areas and that gives me a since of responsibility and urgency.
What is one (or more) piece of advice you can offer our readers and other entrepreneurs that are reading your interview?
“Bet on yourself!” – As you do this ensure that you are taking care of your mindset and your ability to offer the best of you. You have the most control over your life and although that may seem scary at times it is also the most beautiful thing in the world. For that reason, take out the time to invest in learning more passions and following through on things that you really want to try even if they seem “impossible or out of reach”. While doing this invest in self care such as meditation, deep breaths and avoiding energy sapping activities.
