What do you do?
We design and produce a line of Traveling Packing Cubes and other accessories with design and organization in mind.
What is the best part about working for yourself? Would you ever change it?
As two full-time moms, working for ourselves has been the best alternative. It was the only way we could be the kind of mothers we wanted to be, without leaving our own needs aside.
We have discovered a side of us we did not know we had. We have come to realize that our drive comes from an innate and very profound need to protect our children and assure them of a bright future. The need to lead them by example, to show them that with hard work and dedication you can make your dreams come true, and regardless of how many times you fall, you have to get up and keep going.
How did you find your business partner? What is the best part about having one?
Maribel and I met in a Pre Natal Yoga class when pregnant with our first born. That was the beginning of our partnership. We didn’t have a business together, but we’ve always had each other’s backs!
Our business partnership developed naturally in response to the situation we each were going through at the moment. We both wanted to start something, but were terrified of doing it alone. We are so alike in so many ways, we like so many of the same things, and compliment each other in a very good way.
How did you figure out the structure of your business? Did you start with only one product or multiple ones? Why?
We have been figuring it out as we go. It happens naturally. We both are very driven and very perfectionistic. We both know each others strengths and weakness, and therefor rely on each other to do what we do best.
What do you love the most about Mumi Design? What is the best part?
What we love the most about our company is that it represents US. It has our “name” written all over it. We have done EVERYTHING ourselves and have paid so much attention to detail. We fall in love with all of our products, with our logo, with our pictures, with everything we do! It’s our baby.
What is one piece of life advice you would offer to someone who is just starting?
Give yourself time to grow. Time to know your full potential. Don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do, don’t settle. Try new things, you never know what is on the other side of the closed door.
