"I hold a list of many hats, a sister, role model, entrepreneur, and business owner of Fashionably Yours." - Kabrea
You have that “I will make it happen no matter what” personality. How do you get back on track in times of doubt?
To be honest I think my personality is something I've just grown into. My business is my baby and it has its needs in order to grow. Just as any mother would do practically anything for her child, I'd do the same for my business. Unfortunately many things can go wrong and that's where plans B-Z come into play.
What has been the hardest thing about trying to start your own business?
I'd have to say the hardest thing about starting my business was just how it started in general. At the time I was going through a lot of changes and issues with the family, luckily my business was the lifesaver for me. Fashionably Yours gave me hope for the future, and with the more hope I was able to see the more ambitious I became.
How important are connections and mentors for first time business owners?
Creating connections and mentors for first time business owners are extremely IMPORTANT! Those mentors and connections you gain are helpful when it comes to small issues you may run into as a first time business owner, and who if not BETTER to consult you than that mentor you built a relationship with. They have experienced it all and can help guide you, and give suggestions for the best outcome in any given situation. Connects and mentors also come in handy for any personal references as well as networking!
What was the idea behind your name/brand? What does it stand for?
To be honest, when I started Fashionably Yours, it was kind of an experiment, seeing how far I could go, who would I meet and etc. Now that we're coming to our third year of business I can definitely say that Fashionably Yours, is all about having a stylish, inexpensive, comfortable yet polishing appearance for all ages, shapes and sizes. We have several clients who trust our best judgement and we make sure to stand by our word- "The best color in the world is the one that looks good on you, let's help you discover that".
Would you encourage other people to start their own business? Why? Do you believe that it takes a special person to be an entrepreneur or does everyone have it in them?
I would highly recommend that people start their own business, however not everyone has it in them. It takes a lot of hard work, lots of trials and errors, and lots of investing. I do believe that only individuals who take the time to actually invest in themselves 150% can make it happen. At this point the product or service you're selling doesn't matter. Once YOU believe in yourself and the goal, and know what steps you need to complete to accomplish your goal you'll be set. There's always going to be that fear of doubt when business is slow, or if you have no business going on at all, but those role models you look up to we're at the same place you're at right now, and they kept fighting. You have to have the energy to put up a good fight for a successful outcome.
Why is it so important to be positive, keep going and inspire each other?
It's essential to keep a positive energy with anything that you do, its almost required to be positive when running a business. At the end of the day things will always go wrong, but the way you handle it makes a difference. You never want to feed into that negativity that will always try to stir up your way.
