How did you come up with your business idea? What inspired you?
I had been in the world of sales since my first job at 14, I followed that path post college. It was all I knew to make a pretty great living. As I evolved and entered my 30s I started to tap into the concept of living life by my own design. I knew there was more to life and wanted to explore the entrepreneurial journey. This came with companions - personal development, spirituality, and overall growth.
I tapped into what I wanted to be when I grew up - that vision often comes as a child, teenager and adulthood (even if you are fully "grown"). I wanted to be many things and my parents wanted me in the creative performance arts. My father has always had a fascination with keyboards and wanted me to play the piano professionally (that would have super cool). My mom wanted me to be a professional ice skater, but she soon realized the ice and I just didn't mix well.
Mentally I was all over the place, and then I distinctively remembered wanted to be an architect in my teenage years. I was fascinated with the construction of bridges, high rises, all the way down to tiny homes (although that became a phenomena later on) I knew that I wasn't going back to school in my 30s because I simply didn't want to. Furthermore, I don't enjoy the technical aspect of all things construction - i.e using a myriad of softwares. So, I thought to myself, what's the next best thing I can do where I can create impact on the inside of spaces? - interior design was the natural answer.
I've learned so much beyond what one thinks about interior design which has inspired me to work on other projects that elevate the way we live. Often people use these separations: live, work, play. Sorry to break it to you, but it's all life!
Everything I'm working on is to improve the quality of daily living. For starters, Healthy spaces are seen as a commodity instead of a priority. The EPA conducted research to prove the air we breathe indoors is far more toxic than outdoor air. Most of us are spending as much as 90% time indoors. Hence, our mission to elevate life through functional, creative & healthy designs. Can not wait to share all that we have in the works as our visions manifests. Think full spectrum! :)
Do you have a fixed work routine? Is it important to have one? Any tips for our readers?
I believe every entrepreneur is challenged by this more often than not, but not many admit it. For a long time I struggled finding a routine that worked best, one where I could get everything done and not feel overwhelmed. I still have those days, I repeat days. I no longer allow the challenges to take over my weeks or months. Nothing is perfect! Humans weren't created for perfection; therefore life can't be perfect. We have perfect moments, perfect days, but never a perfect life - that only happens on Instagram.
Ok I now this is the long way to get to my answer, but I have to be authentic and real with you.
Yes, I now have a life routine, I rise around 6am, workout from 7am-8am. Meditate and stretch somewhere in between those hours most days. The weeks I fall off from any of those morning routines, I feel discombobulated. I have a calendar which guides me with daily preparation, I prep lunch, sometimes dinner if I have an event that I have to go to right after my work day. And I start "work" between 9:30-10:30am. Time depends on traffic and how fast I move in the morning. I've started to incorporate blocking into my calendar because it supports me with all the ventures I have going on.
Healthy Routines/Rituals/Habits are essential to improving life overall. Which brings me to share a tiny about a passion project I'm working on - a podcast where guests and I will engage in conversations about empowering humanity through lifestyle choices that elevate the way we play in the game of life.
Often we want to change our world by declaring commitments we break with ourselves only to feel discouraged. Start with practicing one habit that connects to you. If you have been wanting to exercise and haven't done so ever or in a while, start by trying different exercise routines. Perhaps running, swimming, bicycling, strength training, the options are endless. When you find what you love, start going 2x/week, and gradually increase your frequency.
Habits related to work- try blocking times for specific tasks. Perhaps that means Tuesdays and Thursdays are your meeting days. Unless there is an ongoing conversation with a client via email, check email at designated times of the day.
Practice and adopt as you see fit. Don't forget to switch up your routines every couple of months. You are probably saying to yourself - "if it ain't broke, why fix it." Well my friend, our brains are incredibly habitual and it's great to invigorate our brain by changing things up.
If you employ people: What do you think about company culture? What are some of your tips on being a good leader?
We are all different, we don't learn nor operate the same. Personality and aptitude tests are great tools to understand those around you better.
Company culture is what drives us collectively to produce the best service and product to our clients and consumer.
Who is the one super successful person you look up to? Why them? Can you share their quote/ideology that inspires you the most?
"If you are complaining about something, that means you have a reference point for something better. CHANGE IT" Alexi Panos.
I look up to Alexi because she does the work, she embodies her teachings and it shows. She lives a life of purpose, alignment, abundance and all the things I believe every human is here to experience. She's a successful entrepreneur, a philanthropist, a wife, a mom and she fulfills all her roles gracefully, not effortlessly because as I shared earlier, she does the work!
What is one thing you find to be true that most people would disagree with?
There is a quote, not sure where it originated from - "Doesn't matter who you know of you aren't sure of who you are." Many believe its all about who you know and your networth is your network. I disagree and that's why this quote resonates to my core. Do the work! Life is always evolving, but if you are clear about your core values, on who you are, life will begin to unfold, when it does allow it to flow.
Finish the sentences below:
If I could have dinner with one person it would be… Abuelita Lilia because I moved to the US when I was 9 and didn't see her much after that, we had a strong connection but I was a kid and distance became the new normal. I saw her in her deathbed when I was 29 and she passed the morning my mom and I arrived to see her. Is as if she was waiting for us to see her before passing onto another realm. I would love to have a conversation with her now and ask her all about her life. She was resilient, independent, raised 4 kids as a single mom, always put together and loved me a whole LOT. I believe everyone has brilliant mind, sometimes we just gotta dig a little and ask
I stay motivated by… the craving I have to full-fill my reasons for being on planet earth
Three adjectives that describe me are… passionate, generous, adventurous
The most exciting innovation to me is… technologies that have a sustainability factor such as the Tesla cars
