What do you do?
I am Fashion Stylist. I dress people and put their looks together for a living. I am also a guest blogger and Life and Style Contributor.
What is the best part about working for yourself? Would you ever change it?
The best part about working for myself is that I decide the direction that I want to go in.I make all of the decisions for my branding direction. I am pleased with that. I have worked for other people and love working with others, but there is nothing like the feeling you get when you are being recognized for all of your hard work. I am the first person to arrive and the last person to leave. I love it.
If you could give your younger self one piece advice, what would it be?
If I could give my younger self advice it would be to relax and enjoy the process. I think that my life experiences have helped to build my character and patience. If I started earlier I think that I would be ahead of the game. But I am happy I didn’t because I am more equipped to handle anything thrown my way now.
Why is it important to have internships and work for other people?
It is the most important thing to intern for other people because you learn to grind and hustle. It is then that you discover that you are truly doing what you love because you love it. Without the monetary gain, you thrive and show how passionate you are about learning your craft. I interned in New York City for top stylists and I would do it all over again because the education is invaluable.
How important was social media to find new clients / spread the word?
Social media was and is still very important for my business. I reach so many people through social media that I would not be able to reach without it. IT is a place where people can see your work and get in touch with you, and provide you with opportunities. It is definitely a helpful tool That I am thankful for. I also get to see what is going on all over the world in Fashion through the eyes of social media.
Do you believe that female entrepreneurs should be treated as a separate entity?
I believe that female entrepreneurs should be treated equally. At the end of the day we are all human. Female entrepreneurs should be given the same opportunities as men. A gender should not even be brought into the equation when business is the topic. We should all be judged on qualifications. Our businesses should speak for themselves. I am all about productivity and working together regardless of gender.
Why do you think so many people limit themselves? What advice would you give them?
I think that people limit themselves because they are taught to get a job, and not to follow their dreams. I think from an early age we see our parents go to work for someone else and we grow up thinking that is the optimal goal. I never put myself in a box of just working for someone else. Working for others is great, and the choice of deciding what to do with your life is yours. We all play our part. My advice to those that limit themselves is to take some time to themselves, think about what they would be doing if they did not have to worry about money and whatever comes to mind is what they should do. Doing what you are passionate about will lead to making a living eventually. Do not limit your self. Do what you love without a limit. that is what inspired me to do Fashion styling. My love for fashion without a limit.
