Did you always know you wanted to be an entrepreneur? Do you come from a family of entrepreneurs?
My parents are entrepreneurs, but not in the traditional sense. My parents immigrated to the US from Thailand with nothing to their name in the 80s. They worked hard, from the bottom up, and have told me some crazy stories like living in a 1BR apartment with 10 other people in order to save up money for a car. They struggled for many years until they were able to get good jobs with stable incomes, and provide for my brother and me. Although I didn’t quite dream about quitting my job and starting my own company, my parents’ hard work has always inspired me and pushed me to do more.
Do you believe that anyone can become an entrepreneur? Do you think that everyone should try?
If you want to become an entrepreneur, you can do it and I would encourage you to. If you don’t really want it, you’ll probably lose interest halfway through and not accomplish much. It takes persistence over a long period of time and it’s easy to get discouraged if your heart’s not really into it. There are other things you can be passionate about!
What part of your personality helped you the most with your entrepreneurial journey?
My creativity is what sparked the idea and recognized the need for Croissant and continues to drive it forward. I am grateful for a chance to exercise my creativity muscles on a daily basis. I am challenged with constantly having to come up with product design iterations, ad copy, and marketing strategies.
Someone once said that you can’t tell your big dreams to small minded people. Do you believe that it’s a true statement?
Some people just don’t understand what you’re working on, and you can’t expect them to. When people close to me don’t believe in my dreams, I see it as their way of worrying for my well-being and I am thankful for their concern. It’s important to focus instead on market validation, and whether you have it or not.
What is the most important to keep in mind while running your own business?
Persistence is the key to any and all success. There’ll be ups and downs, and there is no failure unless you decide to call it quits. If you just keep going, there is no doubt that you will achieve what you set out to do.
