At Sweet Jules we are confident that our hands-on approach to candy making delivers the truest flavors and showcases the very best in fresh caramels. Fresh is best and fresh candy is our guiding commitment. Consumers demand fresh for most all the foods they eat so why not in candy? Who wants to eat candy that was made a year ago and is full of preservatives? Not us! Our caramels are made with fresh Minnesota cream and butter and the finest ingredients like real vanilla bean. We actually scrape out each vanilla bean pod to get the maximum and most delicious vanilla flavor. Every ingredient we use is sourced for flavors that enhance our caramels. With our Pub Crawl caramels we use four top Minnesota beers chosen for their excellence.
What did you find MAIA to be useful for? Did you meet anyone through it? Tell us about it!
We met another women-owned company on MAIA’S site, Urban Growler. We use their Golden Hammer beer to make a new caramel called “Golden Girls”. It’s part of our new Pub Crawl collection. We love that we can support each other not only by using their product to make ours, but we also collaborate on marketing. Win win collaboration!
What are some of your favorite business tools?
Favorite business tools are: MAIA and WBENC for networking. Women in business are so helpful! And there are so many great resources to check out on both sites. Other tools that have been cost saving are KIT, a marketing app we’ve integrated into our Shopify store. It saves us time with marketing and emails. For shipping we use an app called Pirate Ship. It has saved us so much in shipping with the USPS. It’s really great at showing you how to change a package to save money.
What is the biggest obstacle for female founders?
The biggest obstacle for us as female founders is our lack of confidence to stand up and get noticed. We tend to worry about other people more than ourselves. But in business you have to put what’s best for the viability of your company first, which can goes against our nurturing nature, so that’s hard.
How do you generate new ideas to stay relevant on the market?
We generate new ideas with research, whether it’s a recipe or a business aspect. We constantly study the market and hone our skills. We’ve found that great ingredients need not only great confectionary but also good marketing skills to make a product successful.
Any interesting books you are reading that you’d like to share with the readers?
